Overview

Eskişehir Stadium is a 33,000-seat football venue designed as the new home of Eskişehirspor. Located on the western edge of the city, the stadium replaces the club’s former centrally located ground with a contemporary sports facility capable of hosting national and international football events. The project brings together spectator facilities, team areas, media spaces, hospitality functions and operational infrastructure within a unified architectural form. Its strong exterior identity reflects the energy of football and the passionate sporting culture associated with Eskişehir.

Challenge

The project required the creation of a large-capacity stadium that could establish a recognisable new home for Eskişehirspor while responding to the operational demands of contemporary football. The design had to coordinate the movement of more than 30,000 spectators alongside athletes, officials, media, hospitality guests and service personnel. Clear circulation, safe evacuation, efficient access and unobstructed sightlines therefore became central components of the architectural organisation. A further challenge was to give the stadium a distinct civic identity capable of representing both the club and the city within its new urban setting.

Solution

The architectural concept was inspired by the dynamic movement of a football. This idea generates a directional and energetic building envelope that visually expresses movement around the stadium. The exterior is shaped through a deliberate contrast between solid and transparent surfaces. While the more opaque elevations create a strong and controlled urban presence, extensive glazing opens selected areas of the building and reveals the activity within. Inside, the seating bowl is organised to provide clear views of the pitch and maintain a close relationship between spectators and the game. Independent circulation systems separate general spectators, teams, officials, media, hospitality guests and service operations, supporting efficient match-day management.

Result

Completed in 2016, Eskişehir Stadium established a contemporary home for Eskişehirspor and a new sporting destination for the city. Its dynamic envelope, large-scale spectator infrastructure and integrated operational programme create a recognisable venue shaped by the movement, energy and collective experience of football.
