Overview

Designed for national and international football competitions, Gaziantep Stadium is a 33,502-seat venue located in the Şehitkamil district of the city. Completed in 2016 and opened in January 2017, the stadium was conceived as a new civic landmark positioned between Gaziantep’s developing residential and industrial districts.

Challenge

The project had to establish a new centre of activity outside the existing urban core while responding to the operational requirements of a UEFA-standard football venue. Its position between contrasting urban zones demanded strong transport connections, efficient spectator circulation and an architectural identity capable of representing Gaziantep’s cultural heritage at a metropolitan scale.

Solution

BKA organised the venue around a compact, two-tiered seating bowl supported by clearly defined spectator and service areas. Twelve additional sports halls were integrated beneath the stands to extend the building’s public programme beyond match days. The stadium is wrapped in a layered façade of membrane strips and geometric composite panels, creating a contemporary interpretation of the mosaics associated with Gaziantep and Zeugma. Red and black surfaces refer to the colours of the city’s football culture, while solar-control elements protect the southern elevations.

Result

Gaziantep Stadium combines a major football venue with supporting sports facilities and urban infrastructure. Its shifting geometric façade changes according to the viewer’s position, giving the building a distinctive identity within the expanding northern districts of the city. Today, it operates as the home stadium of Gaziantep FK and hosts major national football events.
