Overview

Located at the heart of the emerging New Tashkent, Yangi Tashkent Arena is conceived as a new national football landmark for Uzbekistan. Designed by Bahadır Kul Architects in collaboration with KOC Construction, the 55,000-seat, FIFA-standard venue combines international sporting requirements with an architectural identity rooted in the culture and built heritage of the region.

Challenge

The project must establish Uzbekistan’s largest football stadium within a city that is itself being built for the future. Its design brings together the movement and safety requirements of 55,000 spectators, FIFA competition standards, complex event operations, climatic performance, and long-span engineering while avoiding the anonymous character of a generic international arena.

Solution

The architectural language reinterprets the proportion, rhythm, and depth of traditional Uzbek arches as a contemporary stadium envelope. A continuous sequence of monumental openings creates shaded entrances, visual permeability, and a recognisable civic façade. Inside, compact seating, uninterrupted sightlines, clearly organised circulation rings, and coordinated structural systems support an efficient and immersive spectator experience.

Result

Yangi Tashkent Arena is designed as both a major sporting venue and an anchor for the developing city around it. Currently under construction with KOC Construction, the stadium is planned to host matches during the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup and to support the long-term development of Uzbek football, youth sport, and international events.
