A NEW REGIONAL GATEWAY FOR VAN

Overview

Located on the Van–Erciş Road and connected to the city’s ring-road network, Van Intercity Bus Terminal is conceived as a contemporary transportation gateway for the city and the wider region. Developed on a site of approximately 57,600 square metres, the project brings passenger services, commercial and social spaces, administrative functions, vehicle maintenance facilities and operational infrastructure together within an integrated terminal complex.

Challenge

The project addresses the limitations of Van’s existing terminal while relocating intercity bus traffic away from the congested urban centre. The principal challenge was to coordinate passengers, coaches, service vehicles and public transport within a clear circulation system, while responding to Van’s demanding winter climate and the operational requirements of a major regional terminal.

Solution

The terminal is organized around a three-level passenger building that establishes a legible relationship between arrival, departure and waiting areas. Passenger and operational routes are separated to improve safety and efficiency, while sheltered transition spaces support comfortable movement during adverse weather conditions. Waiting lounges, ticketing functions, commercial units, social spaces, administrative offices and passenger amenities are arranged as parts of a coherent public interior. A dedicated vehicle-maintenance facility, baggage unit and supporting service areas extend the terminal beyond passenger handling, allowing it to function as a complete transportation campus.

Result

Van Intercity Bus Terminal transforms transport infrastructure into a civic point of arrival. Its location strengthens connections with the regional road network, helps reduce intercity bus traffic within the urban centre and provides Van with a more accessible, efficient and recognizable transportation hub.
