Overview

Fethiye Stadium is a 5,000-seat urban sports venue conceived as a new public interface between football, community life and the city. Developed on a compact 22,152-square-metre site, the proposal combines the stadium programme with training halls, retail spaces, media facilities and hospitality areas to support both match-day operations and year-round public use.

Challenge

The project needed to introduce contemporary stadium standards within a dense urban setting while preserving the direct and intimate atmosphere of a smaller football ground. Spectator, athlete, media and protocol circulation had to be organised alongside seven training halls and ten street-facing commercial units. The architecture also required an identity closely connected to Fethiye rather than a generic stadium image.

Solution

Fethiye’s relationship with the sea, wind and sailing culture became the primary inspiration for the façade. The elegant form and structural tension of a sail are translated into a lightweight, permeable and rhythmic membrane system. Repeated PTFE membrane modules are tensioned between slender anthracite steel supports, creating shade while maintaining natural airflow and visual permeability. Transparent ground-floor surfaces connect the internal programme with the surrounding streets, while glass, warm-toned finishes and integrated lighting establish an open and welcoming civic frontage.

Result

The proposal transforms the stadium into an active urban destination rather than an enclosed match-day object. Football functions are combined with training spaces, public foyers and street-level retail to keep the complex connected to everyday life. During the day, the sail-inspired façade creates shade, rhythm and lightness; at night, architectural lighting turns the repeated membrane modules into a recognisable silhouette for Fethiye.
